BORUFF OVERALLS I-81 MEGA SERIES

Round # 3 of the UNITED STATES MEGA SERIES came into I-81 Motorsports Park on a well-prepared track for the 500 riders. The Victory Sports crew had worked 2 dozers and 2 tractors all week to bring the practice track up to Mega Series racing standards.

Honda mounted Jon Boruff drove all night from the Michigan Supercross to make the event and he made his trip pay off. Hard fought races with Kawasaki ’s Ryan Sipes wasn’t easy, but Boruff went home with the overall in the 125 and 250 Pro classes.

Ohio ’s Nickolas Carroll (Yamaha, Sport Cycles Yamaha, Smith, Twin Air, Boyesen, Motion Pro, GYT-R, Michelin) holeshot the first 125 Pro moto, but Sipes and Boruff were all over him. On the second lap Carroll bobbled in the infield supercross area and he was back to third. Sipes (Kawasaki, Team Green, Podium One, Ryno Racing, FMF, IRS, Renthal, O’Neal, SCOTT, Dunlop, Daniel Boone MX) was leading with Boruff (Honda, Jim’s Motorcycle Sales, Smith, Pro Action, Fencepros.com, Moto Planet, Kenda, Vega, Protel) rubbing his rear fender. On the last lap Boruff out drove Sipes and went inside to claim the lead. The whoops on the next straight Boruff looked back to check Sipes out, but Sipes had the drive and motored by to take the win.  The second moto it was Carroll with the holeshot again, Sipes in second and Boruff in third. Sipes and Boruff went to the front and continued their race from the first moto. Sipes led until the last lap when Boruff passed in the new uphill section and took the win.

Sipes won the first moto of the 250 class over Boruff, Carroll, and Matt Blevins (Yamaha, EVS, Litz Racing, Moto Planet). The second moto it was Boruff with the holeshot and took it to the house for the win. Sipes fell but still held on for second.

The 125 D Class saw Jonathan Gilliam (Yamaha) take the overall win with both moto wins.
